Militant arrested while making purchase for Iftar; Encounter starts

Srinagar, June 20: Just hours after a top LeT militant was arrested, a firing incident was reported near the Sogam market where the was arrested by a contingent of police today evening.

According to locals, several gunshots were heard between Nagbal and Sheikh Nard forest area, some 2 kilometers away from Sogam market in north Kashmir’s Lolab area of Kupwara district.

According to reports in media, a police official confirmed that an encounter between militants and joint team of a police and army broke out in the area after the arrest was made earlier in the evening.

The arrest was made around 7:00 pm when top LeT militant said to be Abu Ukasha alias Hanzullah was arrested by police at Sogam market while he was making purchasing presumably for Iftar.

Firing was still on when the last reports came in.
