Militants in St. Stephen’s International School, Jammu, a rumour

The floating rumor of some militants having barged into the premises of St. Stephen’s International School has been quashed. Special Duty Police officers along with other police personnel have already reached the school and the search operations are still being carried out as preventive measures. The news of this event being a rumor however has been confirmed and no militant or militants have been identified.

The school premises were vacated as a safety measure and the search operation then carried out.

U4U Voice has spoken to Rama Jamwal, Vice-Principal, St. Stephen’s International school and she has confirmed that all is good. Mrs. Jamwal said, “The situation is much under control and the police and paramiltary personnel are continuing the search operations.”

She added, “Keeping in view the Peshawar attacks, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had asked all its affiliated schools across India to practice Evacuation drills such that the students could be rushed to safety in under ten minutes. St. Stephen’s has run this drill on many occasions and this was the deciding factor in the quick evacuation of students.”

Mrs. Jamwal told U4U VOICE, “The parents of the children had panicked and had personally come to the school to pick the students. The school also arranged for the school buses to transport the children back to their respective homes.”

The school premises have been evacuated and curfew like restrictions have been imposed in the area. The police along with the paramilitary forces are combing the are to be doubly sure.
