On occasion of World Heart Day an awareness drive on Prevention & Control of Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) was organized for serving personnel & families in the form of Symposium & Exhibition on 29 September 2014 at Dhanvantari Auditorium 166 Military Hospital by OC 136 Station Health Organisation (L). Chief Guest of the event was Brig M M Harjai, SEMO & Commandant 166 Military Hospital. Lt Col Vivek Gupta Officer Commanding 136 SHO (L) delivered a health education lecture focusing on current year theme, “Heart-Healthy Environment”, the places in which we live; work and play should not increase our risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Individuals frequently cannot make heart healthy choices due to environmental factors such as availability of healthy food or smoke free zone, most premature deaths are linked to common risk factors, namely tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol. The lecture was organised to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, which are the biggest cause of death worldwide, covered the role of overeating, lack of exercise, unhealthy diets, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high glucose levels triggering heart diseases and threatening our own lives, and those of loved ones. Heart Day was set up to drive home the message that heart problems can be prevented, the event aims to improve health globally by encouraging people to make lifestyle changes and promoting education about ways to be good to your heart and promote preventive measures that reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The symposium & exhibition benefited troops & families of Jammu garrison.
