Minority group refuses to open shops claiming fear; stone pelting on forces
Rajouri, 17 Aug: The District Administration of Rajouri town gave a relaxation in the curfew for about two hours last evening. Some shops were opened in the town and the people made necessary purchases. But most of the shops from the minority community remained closed.
As per the community members, the administration has completely failed to take strict action against the anti-national elements and those who vandalised their shops. They also claimed that the local administration is not capable of protecting them. In a meeting, the community has decided not to open their shops until and unless they get proper compensation from the government.
In old city area the curfew was lifted from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm and from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm in Jawahar Nagar and some other adjoining localities. But due to attacks on minority community and security forces by the majority community, the administration again imposed the curfew in the tensed areas. The police also responded by firing teargas shells on the mob. The police has registered four separate FIRs and has started its initial investigation.
PDP MLA Choudhary Zulfiqar Ali has ordered to set up a committee which to assess damages/losses and compensation as recommended by the committee will be provided to the sufferers. He appealed the religious heads of all the communities to come forward and help administration in restoring peace.
