Panaji, May 5: The minor girl who was allegedly raped by Goa lawmaker Atanasio Monserratte has claimed that her stepmother sold her to the MLA for Rs 50 lakh. Monserratte today surrendered before the crime branch after summons were issued to him.
The 16-year-old said in her statement to the police on Thursday said that she was told that her mother took Rs 50 lakh from Babush and sold her to him.
She also stated that Monserratte had raped her several times in the past.
A senior police official said that the medical examination has also been conducted on her at Goa Medical College and Hospital which is positive
The police, who has booked Monserratte under section 3,4 of POCSO Act, and relevant sections of the IPC and Goa Children’s Act, also registered an offence against him and the girl’s stepmother under relevant sections for human Trafficking.
A senior police official added that the offence of human trafficking is also registered against Monserratte and stepmother of the girl at Women’s Police Station
The police conducted searches at various places, including the politician’s residence, in connection with the case.
An official said that the searches were held at various establishments in and around Panaji and an apartment owned by Monserratte
