Mobs in Kashmir snatch police weapons; Three policemen go missing; 6 youth dead
Srinagar, July 9: ADGP CID and IGP Kashmir addressed a press conference at PCR, Srinagar today at a very short notice and said that three policemen had gone missing in Kashmir since violence erupted in various parts of the valley today morning.
The press release read,
Following the killing of three terrorists in Verinag yesterday, violent clashes occured in various parts of the valley today. Unruly mobs attacked security forces, civil, police establishments and vital installations throughout the valley.
Violent incidents of arson and stone pelting were reported from Achabal, Kokernag, Kund, Qazigund, DHPora, Vessu, Dooru, Sangam, Awanipora, Pulwama, Bomai, Sopore, Baramulla, Palhallan, Pattan, Delina, Gantamullah, Sheeri, Kreeri, Lalpora, Bandipora, Narbal, Lasjan, Barzulla, Nowgam, Tengpora and Batmaloo.
At many places the mobs forcibly tried to enter security forces establishments with the intention to seize weapons and harm forces’ personnel. Two police stations, DHPora, Achabal, Tehsil office Kokernag and Police post Kund, Qazigund were set on fire. The mob looted weapons from police station DHPora and police personnel were fired upon. Three policemen are missing. The camps at Sanagam, Larnoo, Seer, Gopalpora, Mattan, Kokernag, Dooru and Jang Mandi were attacked.
96 force personnel were seriously injured. The police and security force personnel used tear gas to disperse the crowds. At a couple of places during crowd control Amir Bashir Khan of Veerinag, Dooru, Saquib Manzoor Mir of Khundroo Achabal, Yawar Manzoor Kondru of Anantnag, Aijaz Ahmed Thokru, a resident of Siligam, Ashmuqam in Anantnag, Mohammad Asif Dar of Halpora Kokernag and Shaukat Ahmed of Bijbehara died.
