Modern line sports infra to sport lovers, Govt’s first priority: Manohar

KATHUA:8th District Kathua Fencing Championship was held under the aegis of Jammu & Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association in the premises of Government High School, Barota in tehsil Billawar today.
Minister of State for Fisheries & Cooperatives( Independent Charge) Finance and Planning Dr Manohar Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. SDM Billawar R.S Charak was also present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma hailed J&K Ameteur Fencing Association for organizing the event in rural area of Barota other than district or tehsil headquarters. He said the rural youth have immense raw talent for sports activities as they are naturally blessed with good physique. He said such events not only provide an opportunity to rural youth to see such modern game closely but also a chance to know the game better.
During the day matches were played under FOIL, EPEE, SABRE & SABRE OPEN in both Boys and Girls under-10, under-12, under-14 & under-19 categories.
In under-10 FOIL boys category Ramesh Kumar of Government High School Barota won Gold, Dheeraj Sharma of Doden bagged Silver and Varun Verma of N.S Memorial Thaintu/ Sunny Kumar of Government High School Barota won Bronze medal respectively.
In under-12 EPEE Girls category Samriti Sharma of N.S Memorial School Thaintu won Gold, Meenkashi Devi of Government High School Barota clintched Silver & Sakshi Sharma of N.S Memorial School, Thaintu/ Anuradha of Shiv Public School Barota bagged medals.
In under-14 EPEE Boys category Gold medal was clintched by Ashish Sharma of N.S Memorial Thaintu whereas Himanshu Spolia of N.S Memorial Thaintu bagged Silver and Hardik Tripathi of N.S Memorial School Thaintu / Mohit Sharma of Saraswati Academy Tharakalwal bagged Bronze medal.
In under- 10 EPEE Boys category
Gold medal was clintched by Ashwani kumar of N.S Memorial School Thanthu, Lakhte Din of Government High School Barota won Silver, Deep Kumar of Government HIgh School Barota/ Sunny Dev of Government High School Barota won Bronze medals.
In under-10 SABRE open boys
Gold medal was clintched by Kushal Sharma of D.B.N Jammu,
Vivek Sharma of N.S Memorial Thanthu bagged Silver,
Kulbushan Sharma of Government High School Barota & Kunal Sharma of Government High School Barota bagged bronze medals.
In Under-19 SABRE Boys Gold medal was won by Puneet Sharma of Government High School Barota,Silver medal by Pawan Kumar Government High School Barota and Bronze was clintched by Naresh Verma of Government High School Barota & Nikhil Singh of M.T.C Dharmni.
Later Dr Sharma also gave away the medals to the winners.
