Hurriyat leaders refuse to meet non-BJP members
Hurrriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today refused to meet Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The pro-Muslim politician is a part of the all-party delegation formed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Sources said Mirwaiz met Owaisi for only two minutes and seemingly turned him away.
Sources said Owaisi had reached out to Mirwaiz under personal capacity, rather than a representative of all-party delegation. However, the Mirwaiz was uninterested to entertain him.
Owaisi, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president, along with Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), had played pivotal role in persuading Home Minister Rajnath Singh to include Hurriyat among the stakeholders who should be interacted with.
However, the Hurriyat leadership categorically refused to hold talks with the delegation citing lack of mandate given the panel, along with no definition regarding the agenda of talks.
JKLF Chief Yasin Malik on Sunday refused to have talks with the visiting MPs, Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Yadav and D Raja.
“You see the situation outside. What can we talk about in such situation,” Malik was quoted as saying by Sharad Yadav.
Attempts by the all-party delegation to hold talks with Hurriyat leaders proved to be unsuccessful after the group was forced to leave amid slogan chanting and protests in the Valley.
Three members of the all-party delegation, Sitaram Yechury, D Raja and Asaduddin Owaisi, tried to call on hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani for a “transparent agenda-based dialogue to address the core issue” of Kashmir but failed after Geelani refused to meet the delegation.
