Mufti condemns assault on Er Rashid, asks members to maintain high standards of proprietary

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 08: Urging the members to maintain the decorum and high standards of proprietary in the State Legislature, Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Thursday strongly condemned the assault on MLA Langate, Er. Rashid, in the Legislative Assembly minutes before the proceedings were to begin today.

He said the Legislative Assembly is a sacred forum where laws are made and matters of public importance are raised and deliberated upon. “What happened today is highly unfortunate. The sanctity of the House should be maintained and it should not be reduced to a wrestling ring where blows are exchanged,” he said, while urging lawmakers to respect and protect the dignity of the august House.

The Chief Minister was making a statement on the issue during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly today.

Terming the incident as unacceptable, Mufti Sayeed said all elected members have a right to voice their concerns and that of their respective constituencies.

Later, the Chief Minister asked the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh, to make a statement on the issue.
