Jammu, September 8: In an interview to CNN-News18, senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig asked for Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s resignation, citing that she couldn’t control the situation in the state.
Baig has expressed mixed reviews on the administrative prowess of Mehbooba Mufti from the time she took charge as Chief Minister of State. Earlier this year, in an interview to The Times of India, Baig had said that Mehbooba “will do even better than her father”, while calling himself “an insider critic”, and not a dissenter.
Last month in an interview to The Economic Times, Baig had mentioned that Mehbooba would not “crack under pressure”. He had maintained that the onus was on the BJP, specifically Modi government at the Centre to help Mehbooba deliver “on the agreed Agenda of Governance of the coalition government”.
At the all party meeting in Srinagar recently, Baig said that he reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his five-point formula which had become a necessity in the restoration of peace in the state as per a Kashmir life report.
According to an NDTV report, Baig is uncomfortable with the aggression Mehbooba has shown towards the hardliners when she was known earlier for a soft stance
Mehbooba Mufti had in clear words blamed the Hurriyat leadership for being the main cause behind the turmoil in Kashmir that has till now claimed over 75 lives following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in July.
In an exclusive interview to NDTV today, Baig spoke on how the PDP-BJP alliance has failed to deliver on the agenda of alliance. Baig also set a deadline for the Chief Minister to deliver on the agenda suggesting that she should resign unless she delivers because the failure of implementation of agenda of alliance is what has caused the unrest in the valley.
