SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 09: Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs, Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari Wednesday called for wide publicity to various financing schemes meant for the socio-economic and educational upliftment of SC, ST, Backward Classes and Minorities.
Chairing a meeting with Managing Director, J&K SC, ST & BC Development Corporation Limited, Y P Suman, Manager Finance of the Corporation, Anil Gupta and other representatives of the Corporation, the Minister stressed on launching a sustained campaign and organizing training programmes for the awareness and benefit of the Youth.
Bukhari asked the Managing Director to immediately start organizing awareness programmes across the state. He said such awareness programme be organized in District Baramulla also starting from Kreeri.
The Minister received brief from the Managing Director on the many financing schemes available for the benefit of the people belonging to SC, ST & Backward Classes.
Mr Suman said schemes like the Bank tie-up scheme caters to BPL beneficiaries enabling them to avail financial support to establish their own income generating units.
Similarly, he said under the direct financing scheme the Corporation provides loan to the target group on concessional rates of interest. The areas of activities which are undertaken for financing mainly include transport sector, agriculture sector, small business/trade, cottage industry and artisan and traditional activities. Moreover, under the Micro Credit Finance Scheme, the Corporation provides loan for need based income generating units to the target group up to maximum of Rs 5 Lakh at a concessional interest rate of 5% per annum.
He said the Corporation in collaboration with Apex Level Corporations also provides educational loan facility to the students of the target group for pursuing professional/technical courses in India up to Rs 10 Lakh and abroad up to Rs 20 Lakh at low interest rate of 4% for males and 3.5% for females.
Under its Skill Development programme the Corporation has undertaken various initiatives through imparting training to the candidates of the target group to develop skills and gain knowledge to enhance their competence and employability. The beneficiaries are imparted training in carpentering, plumbing, electrician, beauty parlour/saloons, fashion designing etc for a period of three months and are also paid stipend of Rs 1500 per month, at least 30 people are taken up in a group for the training.
