Students of NIT Srinagar who were almost under a siege at their campus in Kashmir today carried out a major protest march in Jammu city. The students chanting slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai and carrying the national flag demanded shifting of NIT campus to Jammu and action against police officers involved in the brutal lathi charge on students.
Around 300 NIT students who had reached Jammu last night stayed at Khalsa college. In the morning they took out a protest march and shouted slogans against the NIT administration and authorities in state government which had tried to term their protest as an academic problem. The students alleged that they were kept as hostage by Kashmir police and officials and they were not allowed to go out.
The NIT Srinagar protesters were supported by students of Jammu university who joined the protest and blocked a road in the city. Members of Panthers Party too held a demonstration against the government failure to help the out-station students. A protest was also held in Katra, and Udhampur in which students demanded withdrawal of cases against NIT students and strict against those officials who had allowed things to get derailed.
