Jammu 12 April: The NIT Srinagar students who marched through various parts of the city earlier today have been taken in police and hired private buses to the railway station.
The students were stationed at Bibi Chand Kour Gurdwara and were scheduled to hold a press conference at 3 pm at the Press Club here. The JK Police however prevented them and arranged police as well as private buses to take them to the railway station.
“We are not happy that a certain member of a political party was moving with us while we took out a march in Jammu. Our movement is by the students, for the students and has remained apolitical. The New Delhi based party is trying to gain mileage from our movement and this is why we are not giving any statements today. All of us are going to New Delhi and we would talk to the government at the centre without any protests.”
He further added, “The members of MHRD who visited our campus in Srinagar have presented a skewed version of our demands. The focus was pinpointed only at the shifting of the NIT. Though that is our major demand, there is a reason why you see hundreds of students going to New Delhi together. Had our demands been met, we would be taking our exams right now.”
When asked what are the demands that were not met, the student answered, “We will not be answering any of these questions at the moment. We have a document in place and will be raising these demands in New Delhi. You can pray for us that our movement is successful and does not get hijacked by politics. We do not want to be used and thrown away.”
