Jammu, April 6: Soon after the swearing-in ceremony the PDP-BJP government received a hard blow when one of its ministers Sajjad Gani Lone reportedly resigned from the Council of Ministers.Sources close to Sajjad claimed that he had sent his resignation papers to the Chief Minister but there was no official confirmation so far.
Sajjad’s People’s Conference had a pre-poll alliance with the BJP in the state and he was adjusted in the Council of Ministers from the BJP quota. A close aide of Sajjad told the local daily that he had forwarded his resignation to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti yesterday.
After putting in his papers, two key PDP ministers, Haseeb Drabu and Imran Raza Ansari, reached Sajjad’s residence to persuade him to reconsider his decision but he stuck to his decision, a source said.
Though the reason behind his resignation is not yet known as Sajjad wasn’t available for comment, sources close to him said he was not happy with his portfolio.
The CM had allocated social welfare, ARI and trainings portfolio to Sajjad on the recommendations of the BJP.
Last year, Sajjad Lone wasn’t happy with his portfolio when he was given charge of Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Science and Technology Departments in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led Cabinet.
Sources said this time he was expecting a better deal.
