No Dussehra celebrations in Kashmir this time

Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti (KPSS) which used to organize a Dusshera event at Polo Ground every year had to cancel the programe in view of the prevailing situation in the Valley.

After the exodus of Kashmir Pandits, the Dussehra celebration in the Valley was stopped. However, the celebrations were resumed in  2007.During the 2008 Amarnath land row the celebrations didn’t take place. Although, it was celebrated in 2009 but the Samiti had to cancel functions during 2010 unrest and 2014 floods.

Apparently, the Kashmiri Pandit community is not disappointed at the cancellation of the celebrations since situation on the ground is tense. “If situation would have been fine, people in thousands would have participated in the celebrations. When people don’t have food to eat, how could we celebrate,” Sanjay Tickoo President KPSS told a leading daily.

Pertinently, the event, organized by the KPSS, used to be attended by hundreds of devotees while many Kashmiri Muslims also greeted Pandits.
