Non-Hindus can’t be members of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board: VHP

Jammu: While supporting the demand of reconstitution of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), VHP in a press conference yesterday demanded that non-Hindus should not be allowed to be the members of SMVDSB.

VHP State president, Leela Karan Sharma rebuked BJP without mentioning its name. “There are some people who want to include local MP and MLA, DC and SSP in the Shrine Board but people on these posts could be Hindu, Muslim or of any other faith so they can’t be nominated as members of the Board. Only the local scholars, and social activists, who have a faith in Hindu religion should be included in the board.”

He further added that Mata Vaishno Devi is a Hindu deity and the act by which the Board is constituted provides that its chairman should be Governor of the State and if the Governor is a non Hindu he will nominate a Hindu as his representative. Therefore, by including non-Hindus in the board is against the provisions of the Act.

He also opposed the appointment of concerned Deputy commissioners as chairman of Mata Sukhrala Devi, Mata Bala Sundri and Shiv Khori and other shrine boards irrespective of the fact whether they have faith in Sanatan Dharam or not.
