Once again the AIIMS agitation, and resultant promises seems to have come to a naught for people of Jammu who were assured of a major hospital in the province. Sources reveal that while state government has identified a large chunk of land in Kashmir to set up AIIMS no such exercise has beeb conducted in Jammu which means that it is unlikely that a similar facility will come up in this part of the state.
The land for setting up AIIMS in Kashmir has been identified in South Kashmir’s Awantipora which is a PDP stronghold where the party has been winning elections since last 15 years. Almost 4200 kanals of land for construction of the hospital building, and other facilities has been identified, and it is close to the already functioning Islamic University.
While the identification of land, and other processes have been initiated by government not one move has been made in Jammu which clearly indicates that promises made to the people by BJP leadership, and government in centre were nothing but a joke meant to undercut the agitation by people of Jammu. Meanwhile, sources in Jammu said that there is no development as far as setting up of AIIMS in this province is concerned. Large chunks of land is available in Jammu district if the government wants to set up a hospital but it is unlikely that this is going to happen any soon. Although Union Health Ministry had wrote to the state about setting up two hospitals, the promises it seems were merely meant to pacify the angry people in Jammu who were dejected by the union government’s volte face.
A letter by Union Health Minister JP Nadda had said: “The letter says that 200 acre land should be identified in both the regions. The decision on this issue was taken by the Health Minister himself” .
