As was reported previously (link above), the Health Minister of Jammu of Kashmir has been paying surprise visits to various hospitals across the state to assess the state of hospitals. The Minister was at GMC Srinagar yesterday and was reportedly upset with the state of affairs there. After taking feedback from the patients and the attendants, the Minister called upon a group of Doctors that included Principal GMC Srinagar, Dr. Rafiq Pampori and allegedly screamed at the group in the presence of patients as well as attendants.
This episode, however, sparked protests today when the MBBS students from GMC came onto the streets to express their anger against the Minister who hails from Jammu.
The students demanded that they be treated with respect and also said that they were not happy with the statements made by Health Minister Lal Singh. The students were particularly unhappy about Singh’s alleged misbehaviour with Doctor and Surgeon Showkat in Government Medical College Srinagar.
It is curious to note that the attendants lauded the minister’s move yesterday since they allege that the previous Leaders only reprimanded the Junior doctors which in turn never discouraged the Senior Doctors from carrying out their work allegedly below the optimum standards (Click to read about the reason which has triggered this protest).
