NSUI opposes second preference policy in JU admissions
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has opposed the second preference policy of Jammu University in post graduate admissions in the varsity. Under the second preference policy, the university gives preference to the fresher students in the P.G courses over those students who have already completed or left a course in the university. This means that the university denies giving admissions to those who are seeking
to join a post graduate program after completing or leaving another program from the varisity.
Talking to the media at Jammu University, Ajay Kumar, National delegate of NSUI said that “Second preference’ policy is an anti-student policy of the university and this policy says that the preference should be given to those who are freshers, but the score points in JUET and percentage in graduation has no value in it. If a fresher has 15 points in JUET and a repeater has 40 points, the preference will be given to the fresher who has scored 15 points only which is against the rules of justice and this policy is made by the university to harm selected students in the varisity. Demanding the immediate revocation of the policy, Ajay said that the second preference policy should be applied to only those cases where the points of both the applicants- fresher and repeater are equal. If the policy is not revoked, the students who want to pursue post graduation and have qualified for admission in JUET will be unable to get admission in any of the teaching departments of the university.
“If the university does not listen to our voice and is not ready to amend the policy, NSUI will start a strong agitation in the campus and all over the state for it and will make university to amend or revoke the policy in students’ favour. University is taking anti student decisions and the
voice of students is being suppressed by the university authorities but the tsunami of student activism in the name of NSUI will not stop till the justice is delivered to each and every student”, Ajay added.
Others who were present in the press conference included Avjyot Singh & Kamal Magotra, State general Secretaries, Nitin Bakhshi, President Jammu University NSUI and others.
