Old cave of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine to be thrown open tomorrw for pilgrims: Shrine Board

Jammu, Jan 15: The much awaited opening of the ancient natural cave is scheduled for tomorrow morning and shall remain open for the next few weeks.

Every year, the natural cave is opened around makarsakranti when the yatra count is at the lower side. This is done to facilitate the pilgrims for holy darshans of the goddess through the natural cave. As the yatra picks up again around the first week of March, the natural cave is closed again since the hourly passage capacity of the natural cave is about 400 pilgrims per hour.

However, the yatra shall be regulated through the natural cave as per the requirement of circumstances and in case the daily count of the yatra exceeds a specified limit, the natural cave may be temporarily closed. Further, the existing caves shall also remain open for the pilgrims in addition to the natural cave for the convenience of pilgrims, said Jagdish Singh, SDM Bhawan.

“Old (natural) cave has now been opened for pilgrims for darshan of pindies of Mata Vaishno Devi as per usual practice in vogue,” Dr Piyush Singla, Addl CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board here said.

He said every year the natural cave is opened for pilgrims after Makar Sankranti.

The natural cave at the world famous holy Shrine of Shree Mata Vaishno Devi is going to open tomorrow on 16-01-2017.
