Jammu, January 09: After the death of Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Thursday, the major political parties are trying to seize the opportunity over the issue of succession within the Peoples Democratic Party. However, National Conference has decided to keep quiet over the issue and watch the political developments in the state in the aftermath of Chief Minister’s death.
The former chief minister of state and NC working president, Omar Abdullah has told his party men to maintain silence over the succession issue and not utter a word of criticism against the PDP-BJP alliance as per media reports.
It is pertinent to mention here, NC had got an opportunity to tie up with the BJP in the 2014 Assembly elections which did not materialize after a warning by senior leaders of the party quoting concerns that such an alliance would be politically suicidal for the party in the state, Omar decided play the role of opposition.
During the assembly election in 2014, Omar went to London and when he came back, he had submitted his resignation. By that time, the BJP and the PDP were in talks to stitch up an alliance.
