On Labour Day, people sensitized about employment opportunities under MGNREGA

JAMMU, MAY 01-   Rozgar Diwas under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act( MGNREGA) was observed in various Panchayats of District Jammu on the eve of “Labour Day” by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj today .

A special programme in this regard was organized at village Mathwar which has also been identified as Adarsh Village under “Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana” (SAGY).

The function was presided over by Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu Ms. Anuradha. Assistant Commissioner Development, Jammu Shokat Mahmood Malik, Shafqat Majeed Bhat Block Development Officer, Mathwar, Social Audit Coordinator, Programme Officer (MGNREGA) & other officials of Rural Development also attended the function. Local people, members of PRI’s of Panchayat Mathwar, Educational institutions, NGO’s, Self Help Groups were present in large number during the programme.

The aim of the celebration was to make the communities aware about employment opportunities under  MGNREGA in the Gram Panchayats, on spot job card registration for inclusion of new families/adult members, receiving work application from interested households onspot and to discuss the labour budget/Planning of works for the current month. It is  important to mention here that State Government (Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj)  has issued instructions to organize Rozgar Diwas once in every month.

On spot job card registration, demand capturing and work plan under MGREGA was discussed and deliberated at length beside various aspects of planning under SAGY also came under   discussion in which resource persons enlightened and motivated the participants for their valuable contribution in making the village as Adarsh one as the scheme is really meant to change the face of villages. A debate on the topic “Labour Rights” was also organized in which students of the local educational institutions participated.

The officers addressed the issues raised by the Panchayats on spot and assured that development of the village will be taken on priority basis as per the timeline fixed in accordance with the guidelines of SAGY. On the occasion a pledge was also taken by all the participants re affirming the fundamentals right and fundamental duties of the constitution.
