Jammu, November 05: One year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000 has been awarded each to two accused people of Garrison Engineering (Wing) by Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu (CBI Cases) Vinod Chatterji Koul on Thursday on corruption charges.
The accused has been identified as OP Bhatia, AE, and Bhola Nath, Supervisor. The court acquitted two persons namely Roop Singh and Atma Singh for want of evidence. As per reports in a local daily both the accused were booked by the CBI in misappropriation of 13,988.7 KGs of Iron Scrap, 29 KGs of Copper Scrap and 2 KGs of Brass Scrap worth Rs 73,043.
Expalining further, the news report said that CBI received an information on on July 31, 1997 wherein it was alleged that the accused persons OP Bhatia, Bhola Nath, Roop Singh and Atma Singh and other Incharge officials while working in the office of GE Rajouri in that year, were alleged of misappropriation of scrap material weighing 13988.7 KGs that cost rupees Rs 73043. After completion of investigation, a challan was presented.
While taking serious note of investigation and pulling the CBI for not conducting investigation properly, Judge Vinod Chatterji advised CBI to initiate departmental proceedings wherever and whenever it is found that the concerned IO has not conducted investigation properly.
