Jammu and Kashmir News
Jammu, June 29: Showing a definitive failure of the authorities to put any sort of check on the growing anti-social activities, the residents of Qasim Nagar, Rajiv Nagar and adjoining localities staged protests in Narwal area.
The enraged residents assembled at Narwal main road and blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for hours together.
The inhabitants have alleged that the authorities were repeatedly informed about the immoral activities of women involving themselves in flesh trade and supply of drugs. But all their efforts have gone in vain.
Residents have publicly named three women who live in Qasim Nagar and have alleged that these women work in agreement with some influential men in the administration and thus, no action has been taken against them so far. People have also alleged that recently a youth of Rajiv Nagar lost his life due to drug over dose and yet again no action was taken by the police against the drug peddlers. Protesters mentioned that such unrestrained offense out in the open sends a bad message to the younger generation.
The protesting group, told media persons that in order to draw attention of the authorities towards the immoral activities in the locality they were left with no choice but to get down on the roads and demonstrate.
The agitating residents lifted the blocked on the Highway only after Superintendent of Police (SP) South, Shehzad Salaria, visited the spot and assured them that strict action will be taken against those who are involved in anti social activities.
