Opposition demands action against Minister for threatening Govt official

Srinagar, June 22: Members of the opposition Congress party caused commotion in the Lower House on Wednesday, accusing a minister of the ruling party of misusing his power and threatening a government official.
As soon as the proceedings began in the Lower house, Congress Legislative Party Leader and MLA from Leh, Nawang Rigzin Jora, stood up and appealed for action against the accused BJP minister. The Congress member waved copy of an English daily wherein it had been reported that a senior Government officer, Sunil Kapahi, had sought Police Protection and even registered an FIR against the Minister for Transport, Sunil Sharma, for threatening him.
Jora’s accusations were further supported by other Congress MLAs. He also told the Speaker of the house to direct the Government and keep check over its ministers and keep them from threatening Government officers. He also urged the Speaker to direct the police and register an FIR against the accused minister immediately.
Members of National Conference(NC) also Jora joined in later on.
Meanwhile, a copy of the newspaper was handed over to the speaker and the protesting legislators were asked to calm down and allow further proceedings of the House.
