Over 84 houses gutted in Kishtwar blaze

Kishtwar, Oct 16: More than 84 houses were gutted in a major fire that broke out in Suknai village of Warwan area of Kishtwar district on Saturday evening.
Villagers said that fire erupted in one of the thatched houses and in no time engulfed the entire locality.
“As the thatched houses were located close to each other, the flames spread very fast,” they said.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pawan Kotwal told Greater Kashmir that things were “completely” under control now. “We are sending relief material to the area. Police and officials from district administration left for the area early in the morning,” he said.
A resident of Warwan, Imtiyaz Shah told Greater Kashmir over phone that they rushed out of their homes after hearing a bang.

“As we rushed out of our houses, we found that one of the thatched houses was on fire. Before we could do something to douse the flames, we saw that the fire was spreading wildly. To save lives, villagers vacated the entire locality in now time,” he said.
District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, Ghulam Nabi Balwan said that they have arranged cash assistance, blankets, solar lights and medicines from the Red Cross Society branch Kishtwar and food material and more first aid equipments from district administration Kishtwar.
