Srinagar :President Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti has flayed the government action to evict more than a hundred families of nomads from Gole Gujral Jammu without formulating a plan for their alternate rehabilitation.
In a statement, issued here today, the PDP president said that the present dispensation has turned Jammu and Kashmir into a police state, where life and property of the masses remain under constant threat from the government itself.
“The arbitrary manner in which the government has acted at Gole Gujral Jammu burning down the Kullas of nomads and even raising permanent structures to the ground is highly condemnable”, she said adding that the state cannot escape from its liability to secure the life and property of its citizen, which is paramount in the democratic setup.
Reacting to the reports that the evicted families have now been forced to live under open sky, Mehbooba Mufti said, “After all the people, who are being alleged to be illegal encroachers, are human being and it is the duty of state to ensure that their lives are not put under danger”.
She said that government should have formulated a rehabilitation plan before taking such a harsh measure. “Use of brutal force against the weakest section of our society is something which cannot be appreciated at all”, she said. The PDP president demanded that the operation, launched by JDA, shall be put on hold till an alternate place is identified for the rehabilitation of the evicted nomads.
She also demanded compensation to the victim families, who have lost the hard earnings of their life in the drive launched by state.
