Will the BJP be once again cornered into the new coalition with alliance partner PDP getting dominant share of cabinet berths, and preferred portfolios. If sources are to be believed this is going to happen, and BJP will once again submit to diktats of Mehbooba and her party men.
Sources say BJP’s Deputy CM candidate Nirmal Singh is unlikely to get power and urban development portfolios unlike the last time when he held them. Considering the importance of these two portfolios the PDP chief wants to keep these two departments with her and will ask BJP to choose from other departments. Sources said that since getting power projects back from centre was a key demand of PDP, Mufti wants the power department to remain with her. Also a number of cities in J&K are witnessing urbanization at rapid pace and there is imminent need for developing master plans which the Chief Minister would want to do herself.
Development of Jammu and Srinagar, which are capital cities of J&K also needs to be done as per the master plan and she wants to take onus of this after assuming the post of CM. Apart from these reasons there is also politics of brinksmanship that is going on between PDP and BJP, and all efforts would be made by PDP which has an upper hand to gain maximum advantage as the state BJP leadership has little stake in decision making apart from accepting orders of the high command.
However, to keep a balance in government formation and to send right message to its voters in Jammu, the BJP must flex some muscle or otherwise it would be a loser in political battle in the long run.
