Modi Tweet, Phase 3 Assembly Elections

Phase 3 Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir on December 9 will decide the fate of 144 candidates. These candidates also include the current Chief Minister of the state- Omar Abdullah, who is  contesting from Beerwah. Phase 3 of polling is spread across three districts- Baramulla, Budgam and Pulwama- in 16 constituencies. The last few days have been crucial for the state, as numerous places have been targeted by militants. Consequently security arrangements in all the three districts have been strengthened in wake of these recent militant activities because of which 21 persons were killed in the valley.
Uri and Tral are of major importance, as they were targeted by the militants. The first two phases reported over 70% voter turn out and have set setting high hopes for the third phase as well. The recent disturbance hopefully will not deter the citizen to step out and vote. JKPDP has 9 seats out of 16 while NC holds only four seats. Nearly 13.69 lakh electorals including 651245 female electors will be exercising their votes today.
A total of 144 candidates are in fray and the major contestants – Omar Abdullah, Abdul Rahim Rather, Ghulam Hassan Mir,Ghulam Hassan Mir and Taj Mohiuddin from Beerwah, Chrar-i-Shareif, Gulmarg and Uri respectively. Omar abdullah chose to contest from Beerwah in Budgam instead of Ganderbal, while Beerwah has been observing JKPDP’s victory in the last two elections.
A total of 1781 polling stations have been set up through out the 16 constituencies in the third Phase.
