PMC organizes Swachh Bharat awareness programme at Poonch

POONCH, OCTOBER 04: To generate awareness about cleanliness, Poonch Municipal Council (PMC) Sunday organized a Swachh Bharat awareness programme at Pritam Park here. Vice-Chairperson, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People Kuldeep Raj Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

District Development Commissioner, Nisar Ahmed Wani, Additional Superintendent of Police, Amit Gupta, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shafiq Ahmed Choudhary, Executive Officer Poonch Municipal Council, Irshad Ahmed Sofi besides prominent citizens, students and officials were present on the occasion.

The Vice-Chairperson spoke at length about the importance of cleanliness and exhorted upon the people to take responsibility in maintaining cleanliness all around saying that cleanliness has been an integral part of our socio-religious ethos. Cleanliness, he said, is essential to cultivate good habits at a young age and one should start with personal hygiene. He said that people must learn about hygiene and the various diseases linked to lack of it. Gupta also lauded the role of Safai Karamcharis in keeping our surroundings swachh and assured to take up their grievances with the concerned authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner emphasized the need of turning Swachh Bharat Abhiyan into a movement and said to make district Swac, adding that the attitude of the people towards maintenance of cleanliness has to change and that is only possible if taken as a peoples’ movement. Emphasizing the role of every human being in maintaining hygienic standards, Wani said, to keep the district Swachh it is important for us to tart at individual level.

Earlier, Executive Officer PMC briefed the assembly about the efforts of the department in keeping Poonch town clean. He also elaborated upon the newly launched Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) scheme for households without latrine and asked the people to avail benefits under the scheme.

Later, the DDC administered a Pledge of Cleanliness to the participants.
