Jammu, August 4: On fourth day of the Jammu Bandh, 54 people which includes lawyers, members of the AIIMS Coordination Committee were taken into custody by Police in and around Jammu.
“We foiled all attempts of protesters to disrupt the situation. At least 16 persons were taken into preventive custody in Jammu. Shopkeepers opened their establishments in RS Pura and Gujjar Nagar and on the outskirts of the city,” Rajiv Pandey, Superintendent of Police, Jammu told The Tribune, Jammu.
Although the situated of Jammu remained peaceful at large but few clashes were reported at several parts of Jammu.
A few Congress leaders, including Surinder Singh Shingari, were taken into custody at the Nowabad police station after some protesters threw stones on the police. The Congress leaders staged a protest inside the police station. A mild cane charge was used on ACC activists near Gujjar Nagar,” a police official said.
ACC supporters of Samba protested in front of the house of Industry and Commerce Minister Chander Prakash Ganga at Sarore village and outside the office of PHE Minister Chowdhary Sukhnandan at Marh.
A mini scuffle was also reported to be broke out between BJP workers and ACC activists when the protesters objected the shops opened by BJP supporters and near about 38 persons were arrested during the scuffle.
“The protestors were released in the afternoon,” said a senior police officer.
