Police identify militants allegedly involved in Sopore killings

Sopore people Tuesday witnessed many posters pasted by the police carrying photographs of two militants who according to police are allegedly involved in the recent killings in and around the apple town.

Local sources said that they saw two posters carrying photographs of Abdul Qayoom Najar son of Abdul Ahad Najar resident of Mumkakh, Sopore and Imtiyaz Ahmad Kandoo son of Abdul Khaliq Kandoo resident of Kraleteng, Sopore.

“Our investigation so far has identified two Hizbul Mujahideen militants involved in the Sopore killings. They are Qayoom Najar and Imtiyaz Kandoo, so today we decided to make it public by posters,” SSP Sopore Abdul Qayoom confirmed.

Sources said that “wanted posters” about Qayoom Najar and Imtiyaz Kandoo also carry briefs about their alleged involvement in the killings of Sheikh Altaf ul Raham, Mohammad Rafiq Dar, Mairaj ul din Dar, Khurshid Ahmad Bhat and four police personnel killed in Hygam area some time back.

They added that “wanted posters” also carry an announcement of a cash reward for those who will provide any information about the absconding militants.

According to posters pasted by the police both Qayoom and Imtiyaz are affiliated with Hizbul Mujahidin militant outfit.

Pertinently, Hizbul Mujahidin supreme Commander Syed Salahudin has more than once condemned the killings of civilians in Sopore.
