Srinagar October 7: A police officer succumbed to injuries after he got shot in a brief shootout at Gund Dachin area of Bandipora in north Kashmir today.
It has been confirmed that a special police team from Rajbagh Srinagar were travelling in a car to chase militants in the district.
During the chase, as the police team reached Gund Dachin in the district, they opened fire and tried to intercept the militant vehicle. However, the militants retaliated heavily in a brief shootout that ensued.
An Inspector of police identified as Altaf Ahmad sustained serious bullet injuries during this shootout and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was removed from the nearby hospital to army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar.
Unfortunately, the injured officer later succumbed to injuries in the military hospital here.
The slain police officer was headin the Special Investigation Team (SIT) Rajbagh, Srinagar, to investigate the militancy related cases.
“The militants fled from the scene”, an official said.
The official also confirmed that the militants travelling in the vehicle also included LeT commander Abu Qasim. The whole area was cordoned off Soon after the incident and SOG, army and CRPF have launched a massive hunt to nab the militants.
