Police rescue 13 passengers trapped in snow at Sinthan Top
Police in Kishtwar district of Jammu on Tuesday said they have rescued thirteen people, including an infant, trapped due to snowfall in the upper reaches of Kishtwar and adjoining district of Anantnag in Kashmir province.
“After over five-hour-long operation at snowbound Sinthan Top situated at an altitude of 12500 feet on Kishtwar-Anantnag Highway, team of Chatroo Police Station of Kishtwar District rescued 13 passengers including an infant who were trapped due to fresh snowfall, said a police spokesman.
ASP Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom said that two vehicles, bearing registration No. JK06-8083 (Sumo) and JK17-1347 (Tavera) with 13 people on board including nine males, a female, a six-month-old infant and two drivers were on its way to Kishtwar when their vehicle were trapped last night at around 12.30 am due to slippery road conditions and accumulation of around two and a half feet snow.
He said that Chatroo police received a call from one of the trapped passengers at around 12.30 AM requesting for the help.
He said that a police team led by SHO Inayat Hussain under the supervision of SSP Kishtwar Sandeep Kumar Wazir swung into action and launched a rescue operation.
He said that police with the help of a JCB started road clearing and to make approach road up to the trapped vehicles.
“At around 6 AM today morning, the police team got an access up to the trapped passengers and shifted them to safer place from where they were dispatched to their homes,” he added.
