Polytechnic college student booked for sedition
Kishtwar, Sept 28: In their continuous drive against the anti-national elements, police last night arrested a polytechnic college student from his residence here and booked him on the charges of sedition.
The youth was wanted in FIR No 174/2016 registered against him at police station, Kishtwar. Police sources said cops raided the house of Syed Manzoor Ahmed at Tund and arrested his son Syed Asif (22), a polytechnic college student. He was arrested by police at around 10.30 pm without much resistance from locals.
Manzoor is originally a resident of Kashmir and had shifted to Kishtwar a few years back. Sources alleged that Asif was involved in anti-national protests on Eid, September 13. There was earlier a confusion over his identity, but after arrest, it was confirmed that he was the same youth who had taken part in the anti-national protests, sources said.
“We are moving ahead with caution and are verifying the involvement of the person before arresting him. It will help us to arrest the right person and minimize the risk of arresting any wrong person,” said a senior police official as quoted in ET. He said that police and administration were ensuring that only the guilty were arrested and booked under relevant sections of the law. He said that arrests of persons involved in anti-national activities would continue in the days to come.
The police officer said the miscreants who used the masjid loudspeakers for vitiating peaceful atmosphere in the district were also being identified so that necessary action under law was initiated against them.
The curfew was reimposed in the district without any further extension in the evening. Sources said the day curfew would be lifted tomorrow, but the night curfew would remain in place for a few more days.
