The people of Jammu region will have to face more troubles in the scorching summer heat, as the state government fails to improve the power situation.
The power crisis will continue across the region, as the government has failed to establish any mechanism for the payment of power purchase bills. Also, due to excessive delay in the payments, the Power Trading Corporation (PTC) is unwilling to help the government.
Making huge investments under various Union government schemes to improve the power situation – up gradation and modernization, has not been of much help.
The Transmission and Distribution (T&D) network of the Power Development Department (PDD) continues to face frequent power blackouts. ‘
The government has not paid PTC any amount this year, despite purchasing power worth Rs 450 crores in the hope to meet the demand of the consumers. The state government has released funds to the PDD to clear the long pending power purchase bills, but several bills are yet to be cleared, including huge liability towards PTC.
The state is witnessing a shortfall in the power generation and distribution, during the peak summer season. This has increased the frequency and duration of power cuts and consequently, woes of the residents.
The government should have taken a lesson from the past, and worked on improving the power situation to provide respite to the people.
