President Kovind, PM Modi, others condole Sheila Dikshit’s demise


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the death of three-time Delhi chief minister and veteran Congress leader Sheila Dikshit who passed away on Saturday (July 20). She was 81.

Dikshit breathed her last at Delhi’s Escorts Hospital around 3:30 pm on Saturday, as per early media reports. She was admitted to the hospital at 10:30 am today.

The veteran Congress leader reportedly suffered a cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) and had to be immediately put on a ventilator.

Deeply saddened by the demise of Sheila Dikshit Ji. Blessed with a warm and affable personality, she made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi’s development. Condolences to her family and supporters. Om Shanti,” PM Modi said in a statement on Twitter.

“Just now got to know about the extremely terrible news about the passing away of Mrs Sheila Dikshit ji. It is a huge loss for Delhi and her contribution will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to her family members. May her soul rest in peace,” Kejriwal posted on Twitter.

In view of Dikshit’s demise, the chief minister also cancelled his scheduled trip to Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir.
