Probe into killing of new born baby by rat bites


JAMMU: Health Director Dr.Gurjit singh has ordered a probe into death of a new born baby, who allegedly died due to rat bite in maternity ward at District hospital at Kisthwar.

Ghulam Hassan, a resident of the remote village of Chhatru district, had taken his wife to hospital where she delivered a baby boy. New born baby was shifted to maternity ward where newborn was bitten by rats and lost his life, claim parents.

“I have already ordered an inquiry and the chief medical officer of the district will be conducting the inquiry. However, preliminary inquiry suggest that the baby had already died due to some illness and was nibbled by rats after his death,” Singh said. Mr Singh, however, said that if anybody in the health department is found guilty, strict action would be taken against them.
