Protests Erupt in Pulwama After Friday Prayers

Pulwama: Police and paramilitary forces fired tear-smoke canisters and pellets to contain protesters who were raising memorial for the various militants slain during “fight for freedom,” reports said.

Describing the situation as ‘out of control’, an eye-witness alleged that the police reacted with force as a group of youth attacked a police party with stones.

Reports about several youth sustaining pellet injuries in leg also came in.

The tensions erupted just after the Friday prayers. Many shops and business establishments down their shutters to evade trouble. Pitched battles were still being fought when this report was filed.

Meanwhile protest also erupted in old city of Srinagar where they tried to raise Pak and ISIL flags. Later police used tear smoke shells to disperse them.
