Rain brings some relief to Jammuties, faces traffic jam
Jammu: Light to moderate rainfall has been reported from in various parts of Jammu region during the night and morning hours which has brought a dip in the day temperatures again. The day began with pleasant and humid weather conditions. Weatherman has predicted humid weather for the whole of this month.
This holy month of Ramadan, the weather shall remain cloudy and humid for rest of the days of this month. Jammu received 9.2 mm of rainfall and the persistent precipitation from summer season has irked locals who now wish for cooler days. The rainfall and low temperatures have affected the current sowing seeds besides causing inconvenience to the people.
The city received 10 mm rains between night and morning hours which brought the mercury below normal levels, said MET officials. The maximum was recorded 30 degree Celsius, three points below the normal, while minimum was 25 degree Celsius, one notch below normal. The humidity level hovered between 84 and 90 per cent during the day.
However, the rains caused traffic snarls and water logging at some places, causing minor problems for the commuters. There were also reports of traffic jams in various parts of the Jammu city and adjoining areas due to speedy rain.
Earlier, the Jammu Municipal Corporation(JMC) in the month of June had assured the people and claimed that it had cleared all the major drains and big nallahs which create mess on the roads during rainy season. The corporation had already pressed into service a fleet of more than 100 vehicles (garbage carriers) including JCB machines to clear the garbage from the major drains and big nallahs before the onset of monsoon to prevent water logging problem.
As per report also revealed by U4Uvoice reporter that the water level in Tawi River has been increased due to heavy rainfall in hilly areas and administration has warned the people to refrain from river keeping in view of their safety.
