Rainfall ravages Jammu suburbs; People disgruntled with Authorities

JAMMU: Heavy Rains pummeled Jammu and its suburbs earlier this morning. Though it was a relief from the scortching heat, Rains posed a greater trouble for the people residing in the suburbs of the city. Water seeped through the walls and the roads were flooded with muddy waters. “It is for the first time that my house was drenched in Water from Rains”, said Parminder Singh, a resident of Nanak nagar area of Jammu. “I woke up to see my house flooded with water”, he added. The Roads got water-logged due to which children had to skip school and most office-goers had to stay back to clear their home premisis.

The Rainwater also entered several homes in Gadigarh area of satwari. The residents putting by the airport road suffered severe losses to home and property. For the Rain that lasted for hardly 3 hours, such a condition was uncalled for. People staged a protest against administration for neglecting their long pending demands of repairing the nallah right behind their houses from where the flood-water seeps in. The residents blocked the road and chanted slogans against the State Government.

Even after Kashmir flood, the authorities haven’t taken any lesson and are doing little to tackle the post-rainfall calamities.

The weather office has issued advisory of isolated to heavy rain for the Jammu region for Wednesday and Thursday. As per MET Department, the Rainfall is to stay till Sunday (July 12) for Jammu City after which the precipitation will decrease.
