Rains, snow throw life out of gear in Kashmir
Srinagar March 17: Life came to a halt in Kashmir on Thursday after incessant rains lashed the region since late Wednesday night and are continuing till now.
The upper reaches in north Kashmir received fresh snowfall, bringing down the mercury sharply. The tourist resort of Gulmarg and Tangmarg besides the remote areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received fresh snowfall.
Gulmarg, Baba Reshi, Tangmarg and kandi areas of Baramulla have been receiving fresh snowfall since early morning today.
The MeT department has predicted rains for the next two days in the region.
Meanwhile scores of passengers were stranded on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway in Uri town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday after landslides blocked the road.
Reports said that scores of vehicles were stranded after landslides blocked the road near Nand Singh (NS) Bridge.
Officer commanding 53RCC (Road Construction Corporation said that men and machinery on work will open road soon. LoC trade will also resume soon from Salambad to Chokothi 36 truck on way to Chokothi.
