Lucknow March 21: A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s public nudge to the veterans to step aside, they have started leaving their positions on their own. Following Shantaram Naik’s resignation from the post of Goa Congress chief, saying that he did so on Rahul’s advice, UP Congress chief Raj Babbar announced his resignation late on Tuesday.
“I have done what the party high command wanted,” he said. However, sources said Mr Babbar will continue in his office, till a new President is appointed by the party high command.
The Bollywood actor, who resigned on Tuesday night, is likely to be given an important post, like of national campaign convenor for the Lok Sabha polls by the party.
Meanwhile, speculations are ripe that a Brahmin youth leader would replace Mr. Babbar, with names of former Union minister Jitin Prasada, former MP Rajesh Mishra and Laliteshwar Tripathi doing the rounds.
