Rajesh Gupta condemns Omar for preferring elections over relief
Jammu : Senior Congress leader, Rajesh Gupta while condemning chief minister Omar Abdullah for making statement preferring elections over the distribution of relief and rehabilitation of flash flood victims. He said that Prime Minister has declared the tragedy as national calamity, which indicates that to restore the system to normalcy could take more than six months of time.Ridiculing system for being inefficient in dealing with the affairs occurred due to flood fury. He said that despite huge funding and cooperation from centre government has not been so effective as it might have been.
Gupta said that such statements by responsible politicians deepen the gap between the public and political class as it seems that Omar is more concerned of his political carrier than that of miseries of the common masses. Gupta said that in the name of relief the dispensation has done a cruel joke with the affected people as in this period of time when a labor demands Rs 400 to 500 a day government has sanctioned peanuts for the affected people. He said that Rs 70000 to concrete fully damaged and Rs 17000 to kucha house fully damaged is beyond the understanding of one and all. He said government should either directly construct the house damaged or should pay suitable compensation to the people who had been worst sufferers.
Further commenting upon the elections, Gupta urged upon the election commissioner of India to delay the election and set the Governor’s rule in force so that the distribution of relief could be made with systematic manner. He said that people have lost trust and faith upon the existing government.
