JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 29– Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture Priya Sethi today chaired a high level review meeting of the Library Department, here.
In the meeting, detailed review of provincial activities of the department was done and future action plan for rationalization of the activities of the department was discussed threadbare.
Underscoring the need to develop SRS library on modern lines, minister said that the historic library would be developed into heritage library and modern digitization and automation of all the rare collection would go a long way in ensuring that the library becomes favored destination for all the book lovers of the region.
The minister said that the library has a rich collection of the rare and heritage books and is treasure house of knowledge in the state. “We are proud of the old and rare collection of books in the SRS library and all out efforts would be made to preserve as well as enrich the collection of the library,” she added
She said the department should effectively utilize tools of IT to develop libraries into public centers of knowledge and much needed internet based library tools would be made available at the libraries operated by the department at different levels.
Responding to the requirements of the department, the Minister said shortage of staff would be addressed on priority and for overall development of the department a prospective plan would be prepared. She said the government would ensure that staff requirements are addressed through fast track recruitment..
“The department has vital role to play and I would personally take up the issues with Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister for early resolution,” she stressed.
Director, Libraries Mukhtar Ul Aziz and other officers of the department were present in the meeting.
