A newborn baby of a 14-year-old girl, who was continuously raped by her 20-year-old cousin, survived after she was thrown out of the window of a public toilet in Vasai by her mother, just minutes she came into the world. The baby girl was rushed to a nearby government hospital by Waliv police after being alerted by locals late on Thursday evening. Cops said the baby – currently stable, admitted in the neo-natal ICU – was lucky as her fall was cushioned by the soft grass.
“We got to know from locals that a new born was seen behind a public toilet. We rushed to the spot and took the baby girl to the Vasai hospital. Later, we traced her mother,” said Sanjay Hazare, police inspector at Waliv police station.
The girl was admitted in a hospital for post-delivery treatment. “The accused lived with the girl’s family,” said Hazare.
Source said the cousin used to rape her and later threatened her not to tell anyone about the assault. It is not clear if the girl’s parents had any idea about the pregnancy.
Her cousin brother, who was arrested under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, has been remanded in police custody for five days. “We have also registered a case under IPC section 317 (abandonment of child) against the girl. She will be arrested one she is discharged,” said Hazare.
