A palm sized computer, fully qualified to run Windows 10, and costing a mere 35 $ sounds too good to be true? Well, it’s all true and more than a concepts, it’s completely materialized. Say hello to the Raspberry Pi 2 that runs Windows 10 for free and costs 35$. But don’t be deceived by the size of this techno-miracle, it comes loaded with a 900MHz quad-core ARMv7 processor and 1GB of RAM.
The new Raspberry Pi 2 comes as a major update to the older Raspberry Pi Model B+ which featured a Broadcom BCM2835 chip with only a single core clocked at 700MHz core on board with a RAM of either 256 MB or 512MB. The new Raspberry Pi2 Model B+ uses a Broadcom BCM2836 chip on board that contains four 32-bit ARMv7 Cortex-A7 cores. It also comes loaded with 1GB of RAM. The other connectors include a full sized HDMI port, Ethernet port, camera port, 4 USB ports which is same as before.
With all this muscle, the foundation claims that the new machine is six times faster than the old one. The company’s head, Ebon Upton explains, “It’s a usable PC now. It was always the case that you could use a Raspberry Pi 1 as a PC but you had to say ‘this is a great PC in so far as it cost me 35 bucks’. We’ve removed the caveat that you had to be a bit forgiving with it. Now it’s just good.”
The Pi2 goes up for grabs today and a stock of 100,000 units are made available for the first sale. So you want a general purpose computer for your daily tasks and don’t want to spend a bucket of money on it? Raspberry Pi2 is just what you’re looking for and that too for a handful of money. It might be all you need and more.
