Rather assures full support to IUST for its academic growth, expansion, University to establish ACIT, e-governance cell shortly
SRINAGAR: Urging the need for introducing modern and result oriented academic programs to enable the students and the scholars to compete well in the global job market, the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather has assured that the State Government will provide all the logistic support to the Islamic university of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora, Kashmir to achieve heights of academic excellence and it’s future expansion. He said all the required measures will be taken to handover additional 1400 kanals of land in the vicinity of the IUST to make it one of the best residential universities of the Country.
Speaking at the 5th Executive Council meeting of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora Kashmir held at Circuit House Srinagar, Mr. Rather called for more transparency in the working of the university especially in the admission policy so that there is no compromise on the quality of education. The meeting lasted for more than 3 hours.
Besides, Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof A. R. Trag, other members including Former Chairman JKPSC Mr. Mohammad ShafiPandit, Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof. Prof. A. M. Shah, Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri Irshad A Hamal and other officials of IUST were present in the meeting.
Prof. Trag in a detailed power point presentation briefed the members about the functioning and progress of the university made in Academics, faculty recruitment and infrastructure development. Prof Trag thanked the Govt. for allocation of funds for the university and requested to consider increase in allocation. Members appreciated the progress made by the University so far especially during the last 3-4 years in terms of increase in student enrolment and income generation. Mr. M.S. Pandit asked the university authorities to tie-up with the reputed national level organizations like Moulana Azad Foundation, national Innovation Foundation for getting assistance and expert guidance to run various academic programmes for the benefit of the student community.
The meeting discussed agenda items in details and some important resolutions regarding the university governance were taken. Proposals regarding the promotion policy of non teaching staff, enhancement in the retirement age of faculty, establishment of Advanced Centre for Information Technology (ACIT) and e-governance cell, increase in the intake capacity, institution of new programmes, pension policy for staff and creation of posts were approved. The members while lauding the growth of the university expressed hope that the university shall continue to grow in future as well.
Prof. Trag informed the members that substantial support from the government is required to sustain and increase the present growth rate of the university. Prof Trag informed the house that for a residential university land is a prime requirement. He informed that all the newly established universities in the State have more than 4000 kanals of land and IUST is the only university having 275 kanals which is a serious impediment in the present and future expansion of the university. He informed the house that around 1400 kanals of State and other land is available in the vicinity of the university. The land is under the possession of the university and a proposal for its formal transfer to the university has been submitted to Government. The Finance Minster assured that he will visit the campus and take a meeting of the concerned officers for allotment of this land formally to IUST.
