SRINAGAR: To ensure effective monitoring and progress of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) schemes implemented in the Northern States of India, a regional review meeting (RRM) was held today at SKICC, Srinagar.
Besides the host State Jammu and Kashmir, states of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Uttrakhand participated in the RRM.
Commissioner Secretary PWD Ms Tanveer Jehan, Chief Engineer PMGSY, Kashmir Mr. Bimal Tickoo, high level officers of Union Ministry of Rural Development, Directors of National Rural Rows Development Agency (NRRDA), Chief Executive Officers/Secretaries of the Northern States and other officers of PMGSY Department were present.
The meeting focused on various issues relating to implementation of programme, quality and maintenance of road assets, execution/absorption capacity of the States, use of programme software OMMAS etc.
The meeting also deliberated upon cross learning of the best practices including the use of innovative technologies and local material adopted by the States in the construction of rural roads under PMGSY programme.
While discussing the implementation of PMGSY schemes in Jammu and Kashmir State, it was given out that PMGSY programme was launched in J&K during year 2001-2002 to provide all weather road connectivity to the unconnected rural habitations.
It was also given out that out of the total 2038 sanctioned schemes in J&K, as many 1030 schemes were completed till date providing road connectivity to 1595 habitations across the State, covering the total road length of 5554 kilometres by spending an amount of Rs 2713.43 crore.
