In a small but impressive function, held here today, media persons from print as well as electronic media organizations gathered to pay tributes to Ashok Sodhi, senior photojournalist on his seventh death anniversary. Sodhi had attained martyrdom while performing his professional duties during a fierce encounter in Samba on May11, 2008.

Media persons from various organizations offered floral tributes to Sodhi’s potrait and remembered his contribution towards society as a whole and journalism in particular. The programme was held at KL Sehgal Hall of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation and former Director of Information Sh. Sojanya Sharma was the chief guest at the occasion along with IG Danish Rana, who also attended the function.
Two minutes silence was also observed by the members of the media fraternity while paying rich tributes.
In his address, Sharma remembered th econtribution of Sodhi towards the field of journalism and said that by sacrificing his lifein the line of duty Ashok Sodhi had inspired his juniors to never compromise with their work.
He said he would be remembered for his contribution to photojournalism in the state bt the coming generations, particularly by the media fraternity.
Sharma also said that Sodhi was not only a photojournalist but was also a TV and theatre artist who had a fan following among the viewers and theatre lovers.
Sodhi, a senior photojournalist with the local English-language newspaper, Daily Excelsior was killed in crossfire in Samba on May 11, 2008.
Also speaking on the occasion, a senior photojournalist of the state, Mohammad Afzal Shah threw light on the life and works of Sodhi and informed the gathering about the functions held in past couple of years to pay homage to their late colleague.
Afzal said that last year a Bhajan Sandhya was held at the same venue in the memory of Sodhi while in 2013 an exhibition of photographs by Sodhi was held which was inaugurated by Usha Vohra the first lady. He added that other activities held in the past included cricket tournament held annualy in memory of Sodhi.
